Laura Ann Tull and Eric Dane: Grey’s Anatomy Extra Accuses Actor of Bullying
A comment under a viral post regarding the death of Eric Dane has ignited a firestorm after a former Grey’s Anatomy background actress, Laura Ann Tull, claimed the late actor played a significant role in derailing her career. Tull didn’t mince words in her description of Dane.
Responding to a Variety announcement about Dane’s passing on Threads, Tull bluntly stated that he “was a bully and an a-hole,” immediately drawing criticism from other users. When challenged, Tull doubled down, repeatedly alleging that Dane mistreated her during her three years working as an extra on the set of Grey’s Anatomy.
Allegations of Abuse and Bullying
“He was a coward who abused me. Bullied me. Made fun of me,” Tull wrote in one reply. In another, she stated, “He just died. I only wish he’d apologized & admitted what he did.” Tull even went so far as to suggest she played a role in his departure from the show, writing, “I am why he was fired from Grey’s,” claiming she contacted production prior to his exit. However, she provided no evidence to support this claim.
Her posts expanded beyond on-set allegations, accusing Dane of interfering with her ability to work and causing long-term consequences. “His dying doesn’t change [the] destruction he caused me,” she wrote, adding she once intended to pursue legal action.
Previous Claims in a 2018 Essay
These comments echo themes Tull previously shared in a 2018 Medium post detailing her experiences in Hollywood. In that essay, she referenced Dane by name, stating she never directly spoke to him on set but believed he spoke negatively about her to others. “I worked on set of Grey’s Anatomy for three years as an extra, but I never spoke to Dane once directly,” she wrote. “But I did hear him talk about me.” She described being labeled “weird” through a third party, contributing to her feeling ostracized from the industry.
Dane’s Departure and ALS Battle
Currently, there is no public record supporting Tull’s claim that she influenced Dane’s departure from Grey’s Anatomy. The Hollywood Reporter reported that his 2012 exit was due to budget and creative decisions, as long-running cast members became more expensive. Dane himself acknowledged personal struggles, including prescription medication issues, but maintained these weren’t the primary reason for leaving.
Eric Dane gained prominence as Dr. Mark Sloan (“McSteamy”) on Grey’s Anatomy and later took on a significant role in HBO’s Euphoria. He passed away on February 19th at the age of 53, nearly a year after being diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Before his death, Dane became a vocal advocate for ALS awareness, openly discussing his condition. His family stated he died “following a courageous battle with ALS,” surrounded by loved ones.
