
Kristen Stewart and Wagner Moura to Headline A24’s New Vampire Thriller, ‘Flesh of the Gods’
Fresh off his historic Academy Award nomination for The Secret Agent, Brazilian actor Wagner Moura is set to star alongside Kristen Stewart in Flesh of the Gods, a captivating vampire thriller. A24 has recently acquired the U.S. distribution rights, adding another exciting project to their acclaimed roster.
Moura steps into the role previously held by Oscar Isaac, who departed due to scheduling conflicts. This news comes after the project was initially announced during the Cannes Market in the summer of 2024.
A Descent into 80s Los Angeles Nightlife
Flesh of the Gods follows Raoul (Moura) and Alex (Stewart), a married couple living a luxurious life in 1980s Los Angeles. Each night, they venture into the city’s vibrant and electric nightlife. Their world takes a turn when they encounter the enigmatic Nameless and her exclusive circle, becoming seduced by a glamorous, surreal, and often dangerous world of hedonism and thrills.
The film promises a unique blend of vampire lore and neo-noir aesthetics, directed by Panos Cosmatos, known for his visually stunning film Mandy. Fans of atmospheric thrillers and genre-bending cinema will undoubtedly be intrigued.
Behind the Scenes
The screenplay is penned by Andrew Kevin Walker (Se7en), based on a story developed by Cosmatos and Walker. The project is a collaboration between HyperObject Industries (Adam McKay and Betsy Koch), augenschein Filmproduktion (Jonas Katzenstein and Maximilian Leo), and Nevermind Pictures (Kristen Stewart and Maggie McLean). XYZ Films is handling international sales and financing, with support from IPR.VC.
Wagner Moura’s Rising Star
Wagner Moura’s performance in The Secret Agent marked a significant milestone, making him the first Brazilian actor to receive an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor, as well as the first to win a Golden Globe for acting and Cannes’ prize for Best Actor.
