Jordan Wright: The Tragic Loss of a TOWIE Star in Thailand
The entertainment world is mourning the loss of Jordan Wright, a familiar face to viewers of the reality TV show The Only Way Is Essex (TOWIE) and MTV’s Ex On The Beach. The 33-year-old, originally from Basildon, Essex, was found dead after a drowning incident in a drainage canal in Phuket, Thailand, on Saturday, March 19, 2026.
From Reality TV to Financial Investment: Jordan Wright’s Journey
Wright first gained prominence on TOWIE, appearing in 17 episodes in 2018. He then transitioned to MTV’s Ex On The Beach, starring in eight episodes in 2017. Known for his striking looks and charismatic personality, he captivated audiences with his on-screen flirtations, notably with Courtney Green, and a memorable altercation with her then-boyfriend, Myles Barnett.
However, his time on ITV’s TOWIE was reportedly cut short due to claims of taking paid sick leave from his role as a firefighter to film the show. Wright ultimately chose to leave the world of reality television and return to his career as a firefighter. Later, he pursued a new path in the financial sector, becoming the director of London-based Hampton Gate Wealth, a company specializing in alternative fixed income strategies for qualified investors. The Circumstances of His Death
Thai authorities discovered Wright’s body in stagnant water near Bang Tao Beach, Phuket, on Saturday afternoon. A Burmese worker initially found the body at approximately 12:30 pm. CCTV footage revealed Wright running erratically before his death. He was found lying face down, wearing a grey shirt and black trousers, but without shoes.
Police have stated that there were no immediate signs of physical assault. An iPhone 17 was discovered nearby, along with a hotel key card for Hotel COCO Phuket Bangtao, located about a 20-minute walk from the scene. An autopsy is currently underway to determine the exact cause of death, and authorities are awaiting the results.
A Life Lived to the Fullest: Jordan’s Recent Activities in Thailand
In the weeks leading up to his death, Wright appeared to be embracing a “new life” in Thailand, as evidenced by his social media posts. He shared videos and photos of himself enjoying various activities, including riding motorbikes, relaxing on the beach, scuba diving, and training in martial arts. A final Instagram post, dated March 6, showed him enjoying a glass of wine by an infinity pool.
Tributes Pour In
News of Wright’s passing has prompted an outpouring of grief and tributes from friends, fellow reality stars, influencers, and fans. Many described him as a kind, fun-loving, and supportive individual. His former manager, Alex Shafiq, remembered him as a “fun lad” who “lit up any room with his smile.” DJ Stuart Hart described him as “a really lovely boy, always happy and fun to be around.” Even neighbours shared fond memories of him as a “normal, polite lad.”
A Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office spokesman confirmed they are providing support to Wright’s family and are in contact with local authorities.
Ongoing Investigation
Police chief Sutthirak Chuthong of Choeng Thale district station stated that the investigation is ongoing and that CCTV footage is being reviewed. The official autopsy results are expected to provide further clarity regarding the cause of death.
