The Shocking Diagnosis
The road to surgery began in July when a routine MRI revealed a “blueberry-sized” lesion on Joe’s brain. Doctors identified the growth as a glioma, a type of brain tumor. For Amabile, the news was a surreal wake-up call.
“I think it’s one of those things where you’re like, ‘Oh, something like this never happens to me.’ And here I am,” Joe shared in a heartfelt Instagram video, reflecting on the sudden nature of the diagnosis.
Success in the Operating Room
To address the tumor, Joe underwent a craniotomy—a surgical procedure where a piece of the skull is temporarily removed to allow surgeons access to the brain. The news everyone was hoping for arrived on August 6, when Joe posted a triumphant update: “They got it all!”
By August 9, Joe was officially released from the hospital in New York. His wife, Serena Pitt—also a former star of Bachelor in Paradise—took to Instagram to share the relief and gratitude the couple is feeling. She expressed deep appreciation for the medical staff at NYU Langone Health, citing their “endless patience, care, compassion, and kindness” during his stay.

Recovery is a gradual process, but the couple is celebrating the small victories. Serena shared a touching photo of Joe enjoying a short walk in a park on August 10, describing it as “a beautiful little moment of normalcy.”
