WWE’s Power Couple on Music, WrestleMania, and Jersey Roots
As WrestleMania 42 approaches, WWE’s most controversial duo – Liv Morgan and Dirty Dominik Mysterio – took a moment to chat with Billboard about their WrestleMania experiences and, surprisingly, their diverse musical backgrounds. For Morgan, the conversation led back to her New Jersey roots and a formative artist: Fetty Wap.
Returning to the Elmwood Park Diner, a local favorite, Morgan reminisced about her childhood, fueled by chicken tenders, Shirley Temples, and the infectious beats of the Paterson, NJ native. “We were the first to get him, though,” Morgan declared confidently. “He was right next door in Paterson. We had ‘Trap Queen’ before everyone else.” This early exposure to Fetty Wap clearly left a lasting impression, shaping her musical taste alongside the energy of her hometown.
From Jersey Club to West Coast Rap
Dirty Dom, on the other hand, represents the West Coast sound. Growing up in California, his musical education began with legends like 2Pac, Ice Cube, and N.W.A. “Being a West Coast kid, I grew up on 2Pac, Ice Cube, and N.W.A. Now, it’s Kendrick [Lamar], Game and a lot of the new West Coast sound. In high school, it felt like a little bit of everything,” he explained. Despite their geographically diverse musical upbringings, Morgan and Mysterio find common ground in their passion for wrestling, a penchant for mischief, and, of course, music.
A Killer Playlist for a Lethal Couple
The dynamic between Morgan’s captivating charm and Mysterio’s villainous persona makes them a compelling on-screen couple, and their musical tastes are equally intriguing. From Lil Wayne to 50 Cent, and even the unique sounds of Love on the Spectrum’s Abbey Romeo, the pair shared a glimpse into their ultimate Billboard Mixtape. The conversation wasn’t just about music; it delved into their first WrestleMania moments, championship victories, and even relationship milestones, all set to the soundtrack of their lives.
The Judgment Day duo also discussed their entrance themes, with Morgan playfully suggesting she’d “sing it herself” – a tease for her upcoming single, “Trouble,” which debuted exclusively with Billboard this week. The blend of wrestling intensity and musical expression perfectly encapsulates the energy of this captivating duo.
