His agent, Jay Schachter, shared a touching tribute, describing the actor as a man who genuinely adored his fans. “Everyone loved Mr. Belding, and those of us who got to know Dennis loved him even more,” Schachter stated, highlighting the deep bond Haskins shared with those around him for over 20 years.
The Evolution of Principal Belding
While most fans recognize him from the neon-soaked halls of Bayside High, Haskins’ journey as Principal Belding actually began on the Disney Channel show Good Morning, Miss Bliss. When the series was retooled into the cultural phenomenon Saved by the Bell on NBC (1989-1993), Haskins became a staple of 90s television.
His commitment to the character didn’t end with the original series. He continued to bring Belding to life in Saved by the Bell: The New Class from 1993 to 2000. In a heartwarming final curtain call in 2015, Haskins reunited with co-stars Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Elizabeth Berkley, Mario Lopez, and Tiffani Thiessen for a special sketch on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
