Chris Hemsworth Returns to Spain with Elsa Pataky for ‘Crime 101’ Premiere
Chris Hemsworth is back on Spanish soil, not as Thor, but as a cunning thief in his new film, Crime 101 (also known as Ruta de Escape). The Australian actor’s visit coincides with a celebration of 15 years of marriage with his wife, Elsa Pataky, and a welcome return to what he considers his “second home,” Madrid.
A Madrid Homecoming
Whenever work calls Hemsworth to Madrid, the city of Pataky’s birth, he embraces the opportunity to immerse himself in the culture. Despite a busy schedule, he made time to brave the rain on the rooftop of the iconic Edificio Metrópolis, a now-exclusive members’ club, to discuss Crime 101 alongside director Bart Layton. Following a series of interviews, Hemsworth eagerly prepared for an appearance on the popular Spanish television program, “El Hormiguero,” a show Pataky herself has graced many times.
Fitness and Family First
No matter their location, Hemsworth and Pataky prioritize their fitness regime. Reports from OkDiario indicate the couple were spotted at the Metropolitan gym near Pataky’s home in Chamberí. Hemsworth also shared his enthusiasm for Spain with his 59 million Instagram followers, posting a video in Spanish: “Viva España, viva Madrid, preciosa Madrid,” expressing his love for the city and its people, and encouraging them to see his new film.
The couple’s commitment to family extends to ensuring their three children remain connected to their Spanish heritage. Despite residing in Australia for over a decade, they make regular summer trips to Spain.
Life Beyond the Blockbuster
In a recent interview with La Vanguardia, Hemsworth offered a glimpse into his daily life in Byron Bay, Australia. His days begin with early morning surfing, followed by family breakfasts and outdoor adventures like beach walks and horseback riding. He cherishes quiet evenings spent watching movies with his family, stating, “I don’t need much more than that.”
Facing Personal Challenges
Hemsworth has also been open about recent personal challenges. He revealed a genetic predisposition to Alzheimer’s disease and shared that his father is currently living with the condition. He frequently acknowledges his father’s profound influence, praising his dedication as a child-protection social worker. During a previous visit to Spain, Hemsworth spoke of the unwavering support he receives from Pataky during this difficult time.
‘Crime 101’: A Shift in Roles
Crime 101, hitting theaters on February 13th, marks a departure from Hemsworth’s well-known superhero roles. He plays Davis, a high-stakes thief entangled in a thrilling cat-and-mouse game set in Los Angeles. The film boasts a stellar cast including Mark Ruffalo, Halle Berry, Barry Keoghan, and Nick Nolte. Hemsworth describes the film’s moral ambiguity, noting, “The people with the badge aren’t necessarily the good guys, and the thief isn’t necessarily the bad one either.”
