Bob Kevoian: Remembering the Iconic Voice of ‘The Bob & Tom Show’

Bob Kevoian, Beloved Radio Icon, Passes Away at 75

Indianapolis and the nation mourn the loss of Bob Kevoian, the celebrated co-host of “The Bob & Tom Show” for 32 years. Kevoian passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, April 17th, after a courageous three-year battle with cancer. He was 75 years old.

A Legacy Forged in Laughter

“The Bob & Tom Show,” launched in Indianapolis in 1983 alongside Tom Griswold, quickly rose to national prominence, becoming nationally syndicated in 1995. The show’s unique blend of humor and relatable content resonated with millions, establishing Kevoian and Griswold as household names. Kevoian announced his retirement in November 2015, coinciding with the duo’s induction into the prestigious National Radio Hall of Fame.

In a statement released by the show, Kevoian was hailed as “a pioneering force in American radio,” instrumental in building one of the most successful and enduring syndicated programs in broadcasting history. His “sharp wit, steady presence, and unmistakable voice” connected with listeners across generations, creating a daily ritual of laughter.

More Than Just a Radio Show

The show’s accolades extended beyond the Hall of Fame induction, including the Kurt Vonnegut Humor Award and the Marconi Award – radio’s highest honor. Tom Griswold reflected on Kevoian’s impact, stating, “Bob used to say that our show was simply a conversation between two friends — not heard, but overheard. We created a space where humor brought people together every morning. That legacy lives on.”

Life Beyond the Microphone

Following his retirement, Bob and his wife, Becky, embarked on a new adventure, traveling the country in their Airstream RV and cherishing quiet moments at home. However, Kevoian’s commitment to connecting with others didn’t end with his radio career.

Facing Cancer with Courage and Transparency

In June 2023, Kevoian bravely shared his cancer diagnosis, which he received earlier that spring. Alongside his best friend Whit Grayson, he launched “The Bob & Cancer Show,” a podcast dedicated not only to documenting his personal journey but also to offering support and guidance to others facing similar challenges. The podcast explored the emotional and mental toll of the diagnosis, while also providing practical advice on maintaining a positive outlook and utilizing nutrition to fight cancer.

Known for his signature Los Angeles Dodgers cap and iconic bushy mustache, Kevoian even joked about his biggest fear being the potential loss of his facial hair, which was nearing its 54th “birthday” on June 18th. Thankfully, as he shared in a 2023 interview with NUVO, the mustache remained intact.

Bob Kevoian’s impact extends far beyond the airwaves. He will be remembered for his humor, his warmth, and his unwavering spirit. His legacy will continue to inspire and entertain for years to come.
