Adria Arjona Joins the ‘Man of Tomorrow’ Cast
James Gunn has finalized the casting for his highly anticipated ‘Superman’ sequel, officially welcoming Adria Arjona to the DC Studios universe. After a rigorous series of screen tests, Arjona has secured a pivotal, yet currently undisclosed, role in the film.
Rumors have circulated suggesting the character could be Maxima, a powerful alien queen from the DC comics, known for her complex relationship with Superman. While DC Studios has remained tight-lipped, the possibility adds an exciting cosmic dimension to the upcoming film.
A Competitive Casting Process
The casting process was reportedly competitive, with Eva De Dominici, Sydney Chandler, and Grace Van Patten also among the finalists who screen-tested in Atlanta. Arjona ultimately impressed Gunn and the team, securing her place in the ‘Man of Tomorrow’ cast.
Returning Stars and New Additions
David Corenswet will reprise his role as Superman, alongside Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. The film will also feature the return of Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathon Fillion as Guy Gardner, and Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific. Aaron Pierre will also be back as Green Lantern John Stewart, continuing his role from previous DC projects.
What Does This Mean for the ‘Superman’ Sequel?
If Arjona is indeed portraying Maxima, it suggests a storyline that will delve into the more cosmic aspects of the Superman mythos. Maxima, created by Roger Stern and George Pérez in 1989’s Action Comics #645, is a formidable alien queen who has often walked the line between antagonist and potential romantic interest for the Man of Steel. DC Comics has a rich history of complex characters, and Maxima fits that bill perfectly.
Gunn has set a release date of July 9, 2027, for ‘Man of Tomorrow,’ following the success of the first installment, which grossed $618.7 million worldwide. DC Studios has a busy slate ahead, with ‘Supergirl’ slated for release in June, ‘Clayface’ in October, and ‘The Batman: Part II’ in October 2027.
Adria Arjona’s Rising Star
Arjona has been gaining significant recognition for her recent work, including her acclaimed performance in the second season of the Star Wars series ‘Andor’ and her role alongside Dakota Johnson in the comedy ‘Splitsville.’ She also has several upcoming projects, including the Amazon MGM remake of ‘The Thomas Crown Affair,’ directed by Michael B. Jordan, and the thriller ‘Onslaught’ from Adam Wingard.
Arjona is represented by CAA, Brillstein Entertainment Partners, Anonymous Content, and Goodman Genow.
