A Sweet Symphony in Bobcaygeon: Kawartha Dairy and The Tragically Hip Unite
There is something magical about Bobcaygeon, Ontario. Where the Sturgeon and Pigeon lakes meet, this quaint town of 3,500 residents serves as a sanctuary for cottagers and nature lovers. But for millions of Canadians, Bobcaygeon is more than just a geographic location—it is a lyrical landmark, forever immortalized by the legendary Canadian rock band, The Tragically Hip.
Now, this deep connection between music, place, and heritage is being celebrated in the most delicious way possible. Kawartha Dairy, a proud Canadian brand headquartered right in the heart of Bobcaygeon, has announced an extraordinary partnership with The Tragically Hip to launch a limited-edition flavour that captures the essence of the Great White North.
Introducing ‘The Tragically Chip’
Designed to be as complex and soulful as the band’s discography, “The Tragically Chip” is not your average dessert. This innovative creation blends a sophisticated palette of flavours to create a truly “bittersweet” experience:
- n
- Maple Whisky-Flavoured Ice Cream: A bold nod to Canadian tradition.
- Dark Chocolatey Chunks: Adding depth and richness to every bite.
- Rich Black Cherry Ripple: A vibrant swirl that ties the whole experience together.
“When we started this project, we wanted to really represent the band, The Hip and their qualities… themes such as complexity and deeply Canadian,” says Mike Crowe, third-generation owner and director of product development at Kawartha Dairy.
More Than Just a Flavour: A Legacy of Connection
The partnership is a beautiful coincidence of timing. This year marks the 150th anniversary of the village of Bobcaygeon and the 10th anniversary of the farewell tour performed by the band and the late, great Gord Downie.
According to Dana Somerville, VP of Marketing at Kawartha Dairy, the collaboration is a natural fit. Both brands are rooted in a “small town spirit” and the nostalgia of summer memories spent on a dock by the lake.
Scoops for a Cause
Beyond the taste, this collaboration carries a heart of gold. Kawartha Dairy has committed to donating a portion of the proceeds from all sales of The Tragically Chip to the Breakfast Club of Canada, helping ensure that children across the country have access to nutritious meals.
Where to Find It
