2XKO Game Development Update: A Message from Tom Cannon

Hello everyone, I’m writing to share an important update regarding the development of 2XKO. This is a difficult message to deliver, but transparency is crucial, so I want to clearly outline the changes and the reasoning behind them.

Restructuring the 2XKO Team

After careful consideration and extensive discussion, we’ve made the challenging decision to reduce the size of the 2XKO team. This wasn’t a decision taken lightly. As we expanded 2XKO from PC to consoles, we observed consistent patterns in player engagement. While the game has deeply resonated with a dedicated core audience, the overall momentum hasn’t reached the level necessary to sustain a team of our current size in the long term.

Focusing on Key Improvements

With a smaller, more focused team, we’ll be able to concentrate our efforts on making key improvements to 2XKO. We’ve been listening to your feedback, and we’re committed to addressing the features and enhancements you’ve been requesting. We’ll be sharing more detailed plans for these improvements very soon. This strategic shift in game development will allow us to refine the experience and deliver a more polished product.

Competitive Series Remains Unchanged

Our plans for the 2026 Competitive Series remain unchanged. We are fully committed to continuing our partnerships with tournament organizers and supporting local fighting game communities (FGC). Our priority will be to empower the events and organizers that already drive the vibrant 2XKO competitive scene. We believe a strong competitive ecosystem is vital to the long-term success of game development.

A Sustainable Path Forward

This decision reflects a broader shift in our operational approach. It’s not a reflection of the talent or dedication of individual Rioters, nor does it signal the end of the 2XKO journey. We’re restructuring the team to ensure a more sustainable path forward for the game. Successful game development requires adaptability and a long-term vision.

Recognizing the Team’s Contributions

I want to emphasize how deeply I value the contributions of everyone who has worked on 2XKO. They’ve poured years of creativity, passion, and belief into this game. Taking creative risks is inherently challenging, and their work is both real and meaningful. We are committed to supporting impacted Rioters through this transition, including assisting them in exploring opportunities within Riot Games where possible, and providing a minimum of six months of notice pay and severance benefits.

Looking Ahead

I understand this update will raise questions and concerns, and that’s perfectly understandable. We will continue to communicate openly and transparently about our progress. We’ve been incredibly humbled and inspired by the energy and passion you’ve brought to the 2XKO community. That energy is invaluable, and it will fuel us as we move forward and continue to improve the game.

Thank you for playing 2XKO, for your thoughtful questions, and for being an integral part of this community.

– Tom Cannon
