Tragedy in Mississauga: Police Search for Driver in Fatal Hit-and-Run
The community of Mississauga is in shock following a devastating hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of a 38-year-old woman over the weekend. The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning, has prompted a widespread search by the Peel Regional Police to locate the responsible party.
The Incident: What Happened?
At approximately 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, a violent collision took place near the intersection of Erin Mills Parkway and Eglinton Avenue West. According to investigators, a white Mercedes sedan was traveling eastbound on Eglinton at a high rate of speed when it struck a female pedestrian who was crossing the intersection.
Tragically, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. In a cowardly act, the driver did not stop to render aid or report the accident, fleeing the area immediately after the impact.
Identifying the Suspect Vehicle
Police have released specific details regarding the suspect vehicle to assist the public and professional automotive services in their search. The vehicle is described as a white Mercedes sedan that likely sustained extensive damage to both the front end and the windshield.
Investigators are specifically urging local body shops and repair garages to be vigilant. If a white Mercedes matching this description is brought in for repairs, citizens and business owners are asked to contact the authorities immediately.
Police Confidence: “A Matter of Time”
Despite an initial confusion regarding a light-coloured sedan reported at the scene—which was later identified as a witness vehicle—police are now confident in their lead. Const. Tyler Bell-Morena stated that investigators have acquired “substantial” video evidence of the crime.
“There’s absolutely no question that this individual that hit this woman knows that they hit a person and continued,” said Const. Bell-Morena, who strongly urged the suspect to seek legal counsel and turn themselves in to the police.
