Olympic Hockey Schedule: Team USA Prepares for the 2026 Winter Games

From February 6–22, 2026, the world’s attention will be focused on Milano and Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy, for the 2026 Olympic Winter Games. Join us as we follow the journey of the U.S. Olympic Women’s Ice Hockey Team, from their arrival in Italy to the final moments of competition.

Arrival in Milan & Team USA Welcome Experience

The team’s adventure began with players and staff converging at JFK International Airport from across the U.S. and Canada. A 7.5-hour flight brought them to Malpensa Airport in Milan, landing at 9:30 a.m. on January 30th. After navigating customs and accreditation, the team headed to the Sheraton Malpensa for the Team USA Welcome Experience (TUWE).

TUWE marks the official start of the Olympic experience. Players were outfitted by Nike, Ralph Lauren, and other Team USA sponsors with their official Olympic gear. A heartfelt video featuring messages from friends and family added an emotional touch. The team rotated through stations, selecting and trying on outfits for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, as well as potential medal stand appearances.

A unique aspect of the experience is the on-site tailoring service. Expert tailors ensure a perfect fit for each athlete, with alterations completed within 24-48 hours. USA Hockey even engaged fans on social media, asking about preferred seatmates for the flight to Milan! Check out USA Hockey’s Instagram for more behind-the-scenes content.

Life in the Olympic Village

The Milan Olympic Village, located in the Porta Romana neighborhood, is bustling with nearly 1,300 athletes from around the globe. It’s a comprehensive facility, offering everything athletes need – a full-service cafeteria, coffee cart, gym, and even an official Milano Cortina apparel shop. Sponsors and supporters have also set up engaging activations within the Village.

Athletes are enjoying unique experiences like sampling Parmigiano Reggiano, playing video games, and even interacting with an AI robot that trades Olympic pins – a cherished tradition among athletes. Team USA is housed together in one building, with single and double rooms equipped with beds, dressers, closets, a refrigerator, microwave, and a full bathroom. Common areas include a gym and meeting rooms.

A highlight of the Village is the Olympic rings statue, a popular spot for athletes to capture their accomplishment of reaching the Olympic Games.

On the Ice: Practices and Preparation

After a day of settling in, the team hit the ice at the Milano Rho Arena (MH2) for a quick, hour-long practice. Players and coaches expressed relief and excitement at finally being on Olympic ice after their long journey. The practice focused on getting legs moving and working on special teams.
