Cairo International Airport Surges to 31 Million Passengers in 2025
Cairo International Airport is witnessing an unprecedented era of growth. In a stunning display of aviation recovery and expansion, passenger traffic reached a staggering 31 million in 2025, marking a significant 37% increase compared to previous years. This surge highlights Egypt’s growing status as a global transit hub and a premier destination for international travellers.
To keep pace with this rapid growth, the Holding Company for Airports is implementing a comprehensive digital overhaul designed to streamline the journey for every passenger.
A New Era of Travel: The Official Mobile App
By the end of May, travellers can expect a seamless experience with the launch of a highly anticipated mobile application. Developed over two years, this app is not just a digital brochure but a powerful tool connected directly to the airport’s secure databases.
Key features of the new app include:
- Real-time Flight Schedules: Stay updated with instant notifications on departures and arrivals.
- Simplified Bookings: Purchase airline tickets directly through the interface.
- Integrated Airport Services: Reserve limousine transportation and other internal amenities to eliminate stress upon arrival.
With the airport currently operating at a capacity of approximately 71,000 travellers per day, this digital tool is essential in reducing congestion and improving the overall passenger flow.
Going Green: Internal Digital Transformation
The innovation doesn’t stop at the passenger interface. The Holding Company for Airports has also launched an internal digital transformation platform to modernize administrative workflows. By moving away from antiquated paper-based procedures, the airport is significantly reducing delays and enhancing operational efficiency.
The new system introduces several high-tech upgrades:
- Electronic Signatures: Administrative approvals are now processed digitally, speeding up decision-making.
- Digital Archiving: Official communications are stored on secure servers, fully integrated with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards for safety and efficiency.
- Eco-Friendly Operations: The gradual withdrawal of paper documents is a major step toward reducing ink, paper, and energy consumption.
Looking Ahead
The expansion of these digital systems to permanent agents and technical offices ensures that the entire aviation ecosystem in Cairo is aligned. As flight movements continue to increase, the focus remains on sustainability and the integration of IATA best practices to ensure that Cairo International Airport remains a world-class facility for every passenger.
