Burlington Weather: A Rollercoaster Week Ahead
If you’ve been enjoying the warmth, it’s time to keep your sweaters handy. A significant weather shift is heading toward our region. A front is expected to slide through our hometowns late tonight, bringing a wave of drier and cooler air that will noticeably change the atmosphere.
Immediate Cooling Trend
Expect temperatures to plunge into the 40s and 50s overnight. For those living in high mountain communities, be prepared for wind chills that could briefly dip into the 30s. This cooling trend will persist into Thursday, where gusty winds will keep temperatures hovering between the 50s and 60s.
In fact, the upcoming Thursday will feel more like a day in late March or early April than a typical day for this time of year. Residents can expect a mix of bright sunshine and scattered clouds.
Weekend Warm-up and Humidity
The chill won’t last forever. After the mid-week dip, temperatures are set to soar back into the 80s and lower 90s starting later this weekend and extending into next week. Along with the heat, we will see a marked increase in humidity levels, making it feel significantly warmer.
Long-Range Outlook: Will We Get Rain?
The big question for many is whether we will see any relief from the dry spell. The long-range forecast presents a “wild card”: a potential front that could stall near our area by mid-next week. If enough moisture is present, this could provide a much-needed opportunity for beneficial rainfall. However, this remains uncertain, so we recommend staying tuned for updated forecasts.
Critical Drought Warning
The most concerning aspect of the current Burlington weather pattern is the ongoing drought. Current monitors indicate a severe drought across nearly the entire viewing area, with “extreme drought” zones expanding.

- Historical Context: This is the most extreme drought percentage we have witnessed since October 2007.
- Next Update: A new drought monitor will be issued Thursday morning, accounting for the rainfall from last Wednesday and Thursday.
