The Heat Rises Before the Cold: Rick Ross Weighs In on Drake’s ‘Iceman’
The hip-hop world is currently on edge as we approach the release of Drake’s highly anticipated project, Iceman. While fans are counting down the days, other heavyweights in the industry are sharing their thoughts. Most notably, Rick Ross recently stopped by Hot 97 for an interview with Nessa, and he didn’t hold back when discussing his complex relationship with the OVO mogul.
Promoting his new book, Renaissance of a Boss, the MMG leader provided some candid insights into the friction between him and the 6 God, challenging the narrative that the industry is trembling in anticipation of the new release.
“Nobody Fears the Release”: Ross on the ‘Iceman’ Hype
Despite recently offering a subtle olive branch by stating he doesn’t want to see Drake lose, Rozay shifted gears when the conversation turned to the upcoming Iceman album. In a bold statement, Ross dismissed the idea that the rap community is intimidated by Drake’s return.
“People would love for me to say, ‘I hate this n—a forever.’ Nah, homie, it ain’t that. When somebody step out of line and you gotta chastise them or give them a spanking, that’s what you do,” Ross explained. “But is it one of those things where there’s a conspiracy? Hell no. Don’t nobody fear Drake’s album release. Nobody.”
The Mediator: Can French Montana Fix the Rift?
When asked about the possibility of a reconciliation, Rick Ross revealed that a direct line of communication currently doesn’t exist. Instead, he pointed toward a mutual friend: French Montana.
Ross suggested that if a peace treaty were ever to be signed, it would have to go through French, noting that Montana is one of the few people still speaking positively on Drake’s behalf to him. It seems the road to forgiveness is paved with mediation and perhaps a “pecan pie” for French’s efforts.
A Legacy of Hits and Heartbreak
It is a stark contrast to where these two once stood. Before the 2024 fallout—triggered by the scathing “Push Ups” and the retaliatory “Champagne Moments”—Drake and Rick Ross were one of the most lethal pairings in the game. Their collaboration history includes massive Billboard Hot 100 hits such as:
- Money in the Grave
- Lemon Pepper Freestyle
- Aston Martin Music
- Stay Schemin
What to Expect from ‘Iceman’
As we move toward the release date of Iceman on Friday, May 15, the industry is watching closely. This will be Drake’s first solo LP since 2023’s For All the Dogs. The big question remains: will the album contain a response to Rick Ross, or will the 6 God choose to let the music speak for itself?
Whether you are rooting for a reunion or more lyrical fireworks, one thing is certain: the arrival of Iceman will shake up the charts regardless of who is “fearful.” Stay tuned for the drop!
