Current Conditions & Travel Impacts

As of 6:36 a.m. today, a ground stop was issued at O’Hare International Airport due to hazardous weather conditions, lasting until 9 a.m. Over the past 24 hours, seven flights have been canceled at O’Hare, while Midway Airport has not reported any cancellations. Expect light, intermittent snow throughout today and tomorrow, potentially impacting the morning commute.

Temperature Trends & Weekend Forecast

Today’s high temperatures are expected to barely climb above freezing. Tonight will be particularly cold, with lows dipping into the mid-teens. Behind a cold front, tomorrow will bring another surge of arctic air, with highs struggling to reach 20°F. Any snowfall will remain light.

Sunday will continue the frigid trend under mostly cloudy skies. A light snow shower is possible during the afternoon and evening, potentially adding a picturesque touch to the Chicago Bears playoff game. Game-time temperatures will be in the mid to upper teens, with wind chills plummeting close to or below zero.

Looking Ahead: MLK Day & Beyond

The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday is shaping up to be exceptionally cold, with highs barely reaching double digits. Tuesday will offer a slight reprieve, with temperatures around 20°F. The middle and end of next week will remain colder than normal, but temperatures are expected to gradually ease closer to 30°F.

Currently, no significant storms are anticipated during this period. However, residents are advised to stay updated on the latest forecasts as conditions can change rapidly.
