A New Chapter for Innisfail: CAO Todd Becker Announces Retirement
The Town of Innisfail is preparing for a significant transition in its administrative leadership. Todd Becker, the current Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), has officially announced his decision to retire later this year, marking the end of a distinguished tenure that has shaped the community’s recent growth.
During a meeting with the town council on Monday, April 27, Becker shared his decision, describing the upcoming change as a blend of stress and excitement. He emphasized that this transition represents a “exciting opportunity” for both the municipal organization and the wider Innisfail community to evolve.
A Legacy of Innovation and Infrastructure
Since joining the town in August 2017, Todd Becker has been a driving force behind several landmark projects that have put Innisfail on the map. His vision helped steer the town through transformative changes, most notably in the realm of sustainability and recreation.
Key achievements during his leadership include:
- n
- Global Sustainability: Successfully positioning Innisfail as the chosen site for Deep Sky’s world-first cross-technology carbon removal centre, bringing cutting-edge green technology to the region.
- Community Wellness: Overseeing the extensive refurbishment and recent reopening of the Innisfail Aquatic Centre, a project that significantly enhances local quality of life.
Decades of Dedicated Public Service
Becker’s retirement is not just a loss for Innisfail, but the conclusion of a prolific 35-year career in municipal governance across Saskatchewan and Alberta. His deep expertise in local government was evident long before his time in Innisfail; notably, he served as the CAO of Rocky Mountain House from 2009 until 2017.
“We are grateful for Todd’s leadership and vision over the past nine years,” stated Mayor Jean Barclay. “While we are sad to see him leave, we know he has positioned Innisfail well to continue on a path of continued success.”
What’s Next for Innisfail?
As the town looks toward the future, the focus now shifts to finding a leader capable of maintaining the momentum Becker established. The town council is expected to formally initiate the recruitment process for a new Chief Administrative Officer in the coming weeks.
The search for a new administrative leader will be a priority to ensure a seamless handover and continued stability for the town’s operations and strategic goals.
