The Art of the Roast: Matt Friend Dives Into White House Comedy
Ever wondered what goes through a comedian’s mind when they have the most powerful person in the world as their target? In a world where political tension is at an all-time high, comedy serves as the ultimate pressure valve. Matt Friend takes us behind the curtain of one of the most prestigious—and nerve-wracking—events in the comedy calendar: the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
Inside the Mind of the Headliners
In a captivating discussion, Matt Friend sits down with two comedy titans who have faced the podium and the presidential gaze. To provide a comprehensive look at how the “roast” has evolved, Friend interviews:
- Joel McHale: The sharp-witted headliner who took the stage during the Obama administration.
- Roy Wood Jr.: The master of satire who led the laughter during President Biden’s time in office.
Together, they dissect the delicate balance between biting satire and professional diplomacy, sharing the adrenaline and the hilarity of performing for an audience that includes the leader of the free world.
