Coleman Crow: Brewers Prospect Makes MLB Debut

Coleman Crow Called Up by Brewers, Set to Make MLB Debut

The Milwaukee Brewers announced today, April 17, 2026, the recall of right-handed pitcher Coleman Crow. The 25-year-old will make his highly anticipated Major League debut tonight as the starting pitcher.

To make room for Crow on the roster, right-hander Easton McGee has been optioned to Triple-A Nashville.

A Winding Road to the Majors

Crow’s path to the MLB hasn’t been straightforward. Originally drafted by the Los Angeles Angels, he’s been involved in multiple trades throughout his minor league career. He first landed with the New York Mets in June 2023 as part of the deal that sent Eduardo Escobar to Queens. Shortly after joining the Mets organization, Crow underwent Tommy John surgery.

In December 2023, the Brewers acquired Crow from the Mets in exchange for Adrian Houser and Tyrone Taylor. The 2024 season was dedicated to recovery from surgery, keeping him off the mound. He returned to pitching in 2025, making 12 starts across Double-A and Triple-A, totaling 50 innings pitched.

Impressive Stats and Potential

During his 2025 campaign, Crow showcased impressive numbers. He maintained a 3.24 earned run average (ERA) with a remarkable 32% strikeout rate. His control was also noteworthy, with a 6% walk rate and a solid 49.2% ground ball rate. These statistics led to him being ranked as the #20 prospect in the Brewers’ system by FanGraphs in November.

FanGraphs’ report highlighted Crow’s potential as a starter, while also acknowledging the possibility of him transitioning to a relief role due to his injury history and the lack of a dominant pitch against left-handed hitters. He features a six-pitch repertoire – fastball, sinker, cutter, slider, curveball, and changeup – though his changeup usage was limited to 3.1% of his pitches in Triple-A last year.

2026 Performance and Rotation Impact

Crow began the 2026 season with two starts at Triple-A. His third outing was a five-inning relief appearance. So far this year, he has pitched 15 2/3 innings with a 4.02 ERA.

This start for Crow may be a temporary one. The Brewers’ current rotation includes Jacob Misiorowski, Kyle Harrison, Chad Patrick, Brandon Sproat, and Brandon Woodruff. Both Harrison and Sproat have recently experienced minor knee issues, making Crow’s start a strategic move to provide rest without resorting to the injured list.

With Crow possessing multiple options, he could be sent back down to the minors following this start, depending on the team’s plans.

It’s a great name, and hopefully, he’ll have a long and successful career in the big leagues – allowing him to playfully tell people to ‘eat Crow’!
