The Tampa Bay Lightning have reassigned winger Jakob Pelletier to their AHL affiliate, the Syracuse Crunch. This move comes as the Lightning navigate a recent wave of injuries up front.

Pelletier’s Time with the Lightning

Pelletier, 25, was recently called up to Tampa Bay to provide depth while several players recovered from injuries. He appeared in two games during this stint, bringing his season total with the Lightning to four. Despite the opportunity, Pelletier is still searching for his first NHL point of the season, averaging just under nine minutes of ice time per game.

Dominating the AHL

However, Pelletier’s performance in the AHL has been nothing short of spectacular. In his first season with Syracuse since signing a three-year, one-way contract with the Lightning in free agency, he’s having a career year. He has tallied an impressive 28 goals and 47 assists in just 61 games. This outstanding production gives him a commanding seven-point lead in the AHL points race, despite missing seven games due to various commitments.

Pelletier will now return to the Crunch, where he’ll have the chance to further solidify his position as a top scorer and help Syracuse chase the top spot in the Atlantic Division. His offensive prowess is a key component of the Crunch’s success.

Hagel Returns from Injury

Pelletier’s reassignment signals positive news regarding the Lightning’s injury situation. Brandon Hagel returned to the lineup today against the Boston Bruins after missing the past week and a half with a lower-body injury. Hagel is a crucial offensive contributor for Tampa Bay, currently sitting third in team scoring with 35 goals and 38 assists in 69 games.

The Lightning will be hoping Hagel’s return to health, combined with Pelletier’s continued development in the AHL, will provide a boost as they push towards the playoffs.
