YQB Expansion: Record Flight Seats & Airport Upgrades for 2026

Québec City’s Airport (YQB) Announces Historic Flight Capacity for 2026

Stéphane Poirier, President and CEO of Québec City Jean-Lesage International Airport (YQB), announced a significant boost in flight capacity for 2026. The airport is set to see a 15% increase in available seats overall, with a remarkable 25% jump during the summer season compared to last year. “This represents a historic offer,” Poirier stated, emphasizing that 2026 will offer the highest number of seats ever available from Québec City.

Major Airport Investments & Seat Expansion

The announcement comes just three weeks after YQB unveiled plans for nearly $50 million in renovations, slated to take place over the next two years. This year alone, the airport will add 376,456 seats, bringing the total to 2,965,889 seats for 2026. The growth is particularly notable in international travel, with a 111% increase in seats to international destinations and a 44% increase to the United States.

New Routes & Returning Services

Travelers will benefit from five new destinations in the summer of 2026, including Nantes, Marseille, and Washington D.C. American Airlines will also introduce a new route to New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK). Porter Airlines is resuming flights to Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) and will also connect YQB to Montréal’s new metropolitan airport in Saint-Hubert.

Passenger Numbers Return to Pre-Pandemic Levels

YQB has successfully recovered to pre-pandemic passenger levels, a feat not shared by many airports across Canada. Poirier attributes this success to a “very focused strategic vision” and consistent economic development efforts, even throughout the pandemic. Official passenger statistics will be released at the airport’s annual public meeting on May 7th.

Why Fly From Québec City?

YQB encourages travelers to explore the benefits of flying from Québec City by visiting decollezdequebec.ca. Poirier argues that considering factors like fares, hotel costs, parking, and travel time, flying from Québec is often more affordable than alternatives.

Community Support & Future Growth

Québec City Mayor Bruno Marchand highlighted the accessibility of YQB, while Poirier appealed to the greater Québec region to support the new routes and demonstrate demand to airlines. “A unprecedented mobilization of travelers, the business community, and regional stakeholders is needed to ensure the return of these flights next year and in the years to come,” he emphasized. He noted that over half of travelers from the Québec City region still choose to depart from other airports.

The airport’s benefits – a wide range of destinations, international accessibility, a personalized experience, a smooth journey, a friendly atmosphere, easy access, and affordable parking – were all highlighted. Lévis Deputy Mayor Mélanie Sicotte added that YQB’s impact extends beyond Québec City, serving as a gateway to the world for the entire region.

Industry Recognition & Continued Success

Frédérik Boisvert, CEO of the Québec City Chamber of Commerce and Industry, praised YQB’s team for defying expectations and attracting international carriers like Air France. The airport’s continued success demonstrates its vital role in connecting Québec City to the world.
