COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. (WINK News) – Florida Forestry and Greater Naples Fire Rescue are battling a significant brush fire currently burning approximately 550 acres within the Picayune Strand State Forest. The fire, located near Newman Drive and Beck Boulevard, has prompted evacuations and concerns about air quality in surrounding communities.

Current Situation & Containment

As of today, April 13, 2026, crews are actively working to contain the blaze. According to WatchDuty.org, 15% of the fire has been contained. The Collier County Sheriff’s Office has deployed its aviation unit, utilizing water drops to combat the flames. The fire initially started at 350 acres and has grown rapidly.

The Collier County Sheriff’s Office has issued evacuation orders for several streets in the vicinity of the fire. The duration of these orders remains uncertain. Residents are urged to follow official instructions and prioritize their safety. Specific streets under evacuation orders are being updated on WINKNews.com.

Fire Danger & Weather Conditions

Meteorologists from WINK Weather Authority, Lauren Kreidler and Josh Green, report that Collier County and much of Southwest Florida are currently under a moderate risk of fire danger. Breezy easterly winds, dry air, and low humidity are contributing to the rapid spread of the fire. These winds are expected to push smoke westward, potentially impacting Naples and nearby communities throughout the evening.

The Florida Forest Service warns that current wind patterns are driving smoke along Collier Boulevard south of Interstate 75. Residents in these areas are advised to exercise caution and be prepared for reduced visibility.

Safety Precautions

  • Follow all evacuation orders issued by the Collier County Sheriff’s Office.
  • Monitor air quality reports and take necessary precautions if smoke is present.
  • Avoid outdoor activities that could potentially spark a fire.
