Laurence Jalbert Health Update: Long COVID and Performance Cancellations

Laurence Jalbert Battles Long COVID, Cancels Performances

Renowned Canadian singer Laurence Jalbert has unfortunately been compelled to cancel her participation in the show “En direct de l’univers” and her scheduled performance in Saint-Marc-sur-Richelieu. The news was shared by Jalbert herself on her Facebook page, revealing she’s been battling illness.

“Well, yes, I’ve been knocked down by something nasty,” she wrote, accompanied by a poignant photo of crumpled tissues and medication boxes. “I sincerely apologize. I’ve very often worked while sick throughout my life, but I must admit that when I give up, as I am today, it feels like a loss I have to grieve. Not easy at all.”

A Long Struggle with Long COVID

Jalbert has been contending with the effects of Long COVID since December 2023. In a first for her nearly 50-year career, she paused all professional activities for two months in November 2024 to prioritize her health. Speaking to Le Journal at the time, she explained, “I’ve sought every means and every possible specialist to find the right tools. I’ve changed a lot of things, things I didn’t have time to do before because I was always performing. I’ve questioned myself a lot. I’ve always been very hard on my body.”

This isn’t the first time Jalbert has publicly addressed her health struggles. Her dedication to her craft has often meant pushing through illness, but she acknowledges the importance of recognizing her limits.

Fan Support and Authentic Connection

The recent post regarding her health has garnered over 1200 likes, with an outpouring of supportive and understanding comments. Fans are resonating with Jalbert’s honesty and vulnerability.

One fan eloquently expressed the sentiment many share: “We often feel that celebrities are inaccessible, almost unreal, as if they live in another world. But with you, Laurence Jalbert, we feel quite the opposite. There is a sincere closeness, an authenticity that crosses the stage and deeply touches us. You remind us that behind the artist, there is a person, with their strengths, their more fragile moments, and things that, like for everyone, sometimes escape control. Take the time you need to rest.”

Jalbert’s openness about her health journey is a testament to her authenticity and connection with her audience. Her fans are sending well wishes and hoping for a swift recovery. For more information on Long COVID, resources are available at the Government of Canada’s website.
