L’Effet Lara: A Transformative Vocal Journey with Lara Fabian
Lara Fabian, the internationally renowned singer, always dreamed of opening her own vocal school. That dream has now become a reality with the touching and deeply engaging docu-reality series, L’Effet Lara, which premiered on TVA on April 12th. We had the opportunity to speak with the singer while she was taking a break from her European tour, at her home in Sicily, where she welcomed the first cohort of artists: Mélissa Bédard, Christian Bégin, Eve Côté, Alex Nevsky, and Nathalie Simard.
A Unique Pedagogical Experience
What did you take away from this adventure?
“I cherished the freedom I felt in embracing my role as a pedagogue and the incredible kindness of the participants who willingly opened themselves up to that freedom,” Lara Fabian shared.
This series marks Lara Fabian’s debut as a host and creator of a new television format. She approached the challenge with a unique approach, allowing her pedagogical skills to shine.
The Artists’ Journey
Were Mélissa, Christian, Eve, Alex, and Nathalie as open and receptive as you hoped?
“Absolutely,” Lara replied. “They were all seekers, explorers. It required a willingness to be vulnerable and open to possibilities.”
Lara adopted a listening and guiding approach, utilizing her kindness and eloquence. She even encouraged some contestants, like Alex Nevsky, to push their boundaries. However, she emphasized that the goal wasn’t to dredge up past traumas, but to explore new potential.
“I wasn’t here to open boxes you’ve buried,” she explained. “I’m here to open boxes you’ll pass to me.”
Letting Go and Embracing Imperfection
Lara admitted she had to relinquish control and move away from striving for perfection. “In the pursuit of perfection, there’s a danger of becoming rigid,” she explained. “There couldn’t be rigidity in a space where all possibilities are welcomed. I had to let go of the reins!”
The Power of Collaboration: Fabio Lazarra
A crucial element of L’Effet Lara is vocal coach Fabio Lazarra. “Without Fabio, there is no L’Effet Lara!” Lara exclaimed. “We affectionately call it the ‘Fab Lab’!”
Fabio and Lara bring complementary skills to the table. Fabio focuses on the physiological aspects of the voice, while Lara delves into the psycho-emotional connection. With 25 years of studying the voice and body, Fabio can diagnose vocal issues in a matter of seconds, connecting symptoms to underlying problems. He understands that the voice is a direct reflection of the body’s overall health.
Giving Back and Contributing to the Future
For Lara Fabian, L’Effet Lara represents a shift towards a more contributive phase of her life. “The second part of my life will be about giving back, serving others,” she said. “There’s nothing more beautiful than contributing and giving.”
