Toronto, ON – April 12, 2026 – Two Toronto Police Service officers sustained injuries early Sunday morning while attempting to arrest a suspect in North York. The incident occurred at approximately 1:09 a.m. near the intersection of Bathurst Street and Wilson Avenue, following a call regarding an assault at an apartment building.
According to Toronto Police, officers responded to the assault call and, during the process of arresting the suspect, were themselves assaulted. Both officers suffered non-life-threatening injuries. However, one officer required immediate medical attention and was transported to a local hospital.
Detective Constable Amy Davey confirmed to CP24 that the injured officer sustained a serious bite wound and may require surgery. “The officer’s condition is stable, but the injury is significant,” Davey stated. The suspect is currently in police custody, and authorities are finalizing the list of charges that will be laid.
Due to the ongoing nature of the investigation and the matter now being before the courts, police are limited in the information they can release publicly. “We are unable to provide further details at this time to avoid jeopardizing the legal proceedings,” Davey explained.
The Toronto Police Service is continuing to investigate the incident. This event highlights the risks faced by law enforcement officers in the line of duty while protecting the citizens of Toronto.
