
Judd Apatow’s ‘The Comeback King’ Starring Glen Powell Set for 2027 Release
Glen Powell is set to lead a new comedy helmed by the renowned Judd Apatow. Universal Pictures officially announced the title of the previously untitled feature as The Comeback King, slated to hit theaters on February 5, 2027.
The film centers around a country western star experiencing a significant fall from grace. Powell will portray this struggling musician as he attempts a career resurgence.
A Stellar Cast Joins the Production
Alongside Glen Powell, the cast boasts a talented ensemble including Cristin Milioti, Madelyn Cline, Stavros Halkias, and Li Jin Hao. Notably, Apatow co-wrote the script with Powell, promising a unique blend of comedic voices.
Powell shared the title reveal on Instagram with the caption, “Turn it up. Feb 2027.”
Apatow and Powell’s Collaborative Effort
Judd Apatow will produce the film through his Apatow Productions, leveraging his long-standing overall deal with Universal. Powell and Dan Cohen will produce via their Barnstorm production company, operating under a first-look deal with Universal signed last year. Kevin Misher of Misher Films also joins as a producer, with Barry Mendel and Josh Church serving as executive producers.
Powell’s Rising Star Power
Glen Powell’s relationship with Universal has been steadily growing. He starred in 2024’s Twisters, which grossed over $267 million domestically. He also lends his voice to Fox McCloud in the animated hit The Super Mario Bros. Movie, alongside Chris Pratt, Charlie Day, Jack Black, and Anya Taylor-Joy. Powell’s recent film credits include How to Make a Killing and The Running Man, and he’s set to return for the second season of Hulu’s Chad Powers.
