Oilers vs. Mammoth: Jarry to Start in Key Playoff Battle

SALT LAKE CITY, UT – The Edmonton Oilers will turn to goaltender Tristan Jarry between the pipes as they begin a three-game road trip against the Utah Mammoth at Delta Center on Tuesday night. Forward Colton Dach will also return to the lineup, bolstering the Oilers’ forward depth.

This game marks the start of Edmonton’s final road trip of the regular season. The Oilers will be looking to replicate their success from March 24th, when they defeated the Mammoth 5-2 in Salt Lake City, a victory that sparked a five-game win streak. The Mammoth, however, are riding high on a three-game winning streak of their own, having outscored opponents 19-8 during that span.

Jarry Looks to Continue Winning Streak

Jarry was impressive in the previous encounter with the Mammoth, making 16 saves. He’ll aim to build on that performance and secure his third consecutive win, following a 17-save effort in a 3-1 victory over Chicago on April 2nd. The Oilers are banking on Jarry’s strong play as they navigate a critical stretch of games.

Playoff Implications Loom Large

Utah currently holds the first Wild Card spot in the Western Conference and presents a potential first-round playoff opponent for the Oilers. Edmonton’s focus remains on securing the top spot in the Pacific Division, and every game down the stretch carries significant weight.

“They’re playing very well with 19 goals in the last three,” Head Coach Kris Knoblauch noted. “They’ve got a lot of good shooters, but I think what allows them to play that offensive game and score goals is their transition game, and it starts on the back end.”

Oilers Relying on Team Effort

Despite a recent 5-1 loss to the Golden Knights, which ended their five-game win streak, the Oilers are emphasizing a collective effort to overcome the absences of key players Leon Draisaitl and Zach Hyman.

“We’ve definitely taken steps in the right direction and playing more as a team,” said Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. “Everybody has the same mindset and the same kind of attitude about things out there. So obviously, we got some work to do here in the next five to really solidify where we’re at, but I think it’s really coming together.”

Keys to Victory for Edmonton

Limiting the Mammoth’s rush chances and utilizing speed on the forecheck to disrupt their offensive flow will be crucial for the Oilers. Revitalizing the power play, which has struggled without Draisaitl (1-for-19 in the last nine games), is also a priority.

“If you look at the chances that we’ve had pretty much every night, we’ve had so many good looks, but the pucks aren’t going in right now,” Nugent-Hopkins explained. “Obviously that’s where Leon really changes things for us. But we’ve had a lot of good looks. We’ve got to find ways to bear down and maybe get some more second opportunities.”

Projected Oilers Lineup vs. Mammoth
