Hydro-Québec Power Outages: Quebec Residents Face Easter Sunday Blackouts

Hydro-Québec Reports Widespread Power Outages Across Quebec

Montreal, QC – April 5, 2026 – Thousands of Hydro-Québec customers were left in the dark on Easter Sunday as strong winds caused significant disruptions to the power grid across Quebec. According to Hydro-Québec, transmission lines were downed in several regions, leading to widespread outages.

As of 7:24 p.m. on Sunday, approximately 1,704 addresses were without electricity province-wide. The Montérégie and Estrie regions bore the brunt of the impact. Earlier in the day, around 12:30 p.m., the number of affected Hydro-Québec customers peaked at 24,450.

Regional Impact of the Outages

  • Montérégie: 1,038 customers without power
  • Estrie: 378 outages reported
  • Montreal & Laval: No outages reported

Hydro-Québec attributes the outages to severe weather conditions. Audrey St-Pierre, a spokesperson for the utility, stated, “Weather conditions over the past few hours have caused power outages in some regions of Québec, mainly due to strong winds and vegetation coming into contact with power lines.”

Crews have been deployed to affected areas and are working diligently to restore service as quickly as possible. A fallen tree impacting a transmission line in the Eastern Townships region is currently being addressed by on-site crews. Hydro-Québec anticipates that power will be restored to all affected customers by later today.
