While the NCAA Tournament’s Final Four is underway, Auburn is making a compelling case for their postseason prowess.

Despite not making the NCAA Tournament, Auburn (21-16) proved they were a force to be reckoned with, dominating Illinois State (23-13) from the start. The Tigers, a bubble team left out of March Madness, played with a level of intensity and precision that left no doubt about their superiority.

Auburn will now face Tulsa in the NIT title game on Sunday night at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Tulsa secured their spot after a 74-69 victory over New Mexico in the first semifinal. This will be Auburn’s first appearance in the NIT championship game.

Despite the loss, Illinois State Coach Ryan Pedon remains optimistic about the program’s future. “It’s great for our guys to be able to see what it looks like when you do get to that stage,” Pedon said. The Redbirds finished the season with a 23-13 record, marking consecutive 20-win seasons for the first time since 2008-09 and 2009-10.
