Quebec Remparts Look to Capitalize on Home Ice Advantage
Following a crucial victory in Charlottetown on Saturday, leveling their playoff series against the Islanders, the Quebec Remparts now have a golden opportunity to take the series lead. They’ll be playing in front of their home crowd on Tuesday night, and against a team that will be without its star player.
Ryabkin’s Suspension Creates Opportunity for the Remparts
Russian forward Ivan Ryabkin will miss Game 3 at the Centre Vidéotron after receiving a match penalty on Saturday for abuse of an official during the second period. This absence significantly impacts the Islanders’ offensive capabilities, creating favourable conditions for the Remparts.
Coach Veilleux Emphasizes Consistency and Identity
Despite the advantageous circumstances, Remparts head coach Éric Veilleux remains focused on his team’s performance and isn’t letting the suspension or the series format distract them. “I’ve been coaching for 25 years and I’ve always taken things one game at a time,” Veilleux stated. “I’ve seen all kinds of playoff formats, and even when playing well, I’ve experienced both positive and negative scenarios. Ultimately, it doesn’t change much. We have a style of play, and when we execute it, whether at home or on the road, we give ourselves a chance to win. Our style of play is our identity, and it’s important to bring that to the game.”
Responding to Friday’s Loss
Veilleux challenged his team following a 5-3 loss on Friday, urging key players to step up their game. He believes his message resonated with the entire team, leading to a much-improved performance on Saturday. “We asked everyone – our forwards, defensemen, and goaltender – to elevate their play. We don’t want perfection, because that doesn’t exist, but it was important to give a little more than we had been. And everyone did, both physically and in terms of execution. We were also more opportunistic than the night before.”
Injury Updates
Defenceman Charlie Morrison and forward Mavrick Rousseau-Hamel remain questionable for Tuesday night’s game at the Centre Vidéotron. Their status will be monitored closely leading up to the puck drop.
Looking Ahead
The Remparts, riding the momentum of their Saturday win and facing a depleted Islanders squad, are in a prime position to take control of the series. The 2-3-2 series format means this stretch of home games is crucial for Quebec. Fans can expect a high-energy contest as the Remparts aim to capitalize on their home-ice advantage.
