
Flight Disruption at Detroit Metro Airport: FBI Investigates Disruptive Passenger
Romulus, Mich. – The FBI responded to a disturbance aboard a diverted American Airlines flight at Detroit Metro Airport (DTW) on Sunday, March 29, 2026. The incident prompted a swift response from law enforcement and medical personnel.
The Wayne County Airport Authority confirmed the flight, American Airlines flight 2819, was en route from John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York City to O’Hare International Airport (ORD) in Chicago when the disruption occurred. According to FlightAware, the flight departed JFK at 8:59 a.m. and landed at DTW at 11:08 a.m.
FBI Investigation and Statement
The FBI’s Detroit field office has confirmed an investigation is underway. Authorities have stated there is currently no threat to the public. The focus remains on understanding the circumstances surrounding the disruptive behavior on the flight.
American Airlines released the following statement: “American Airlines flight 2819 diverted to Detroit (DTW) due to a disruptive customer. The aircraft landed safely at DTW where law enforcement and medical personnel met the flight and the customer deplaned. We appreciate our customers for their patience and thank our crew for their professionalism.”
Flight Resumption
Passengers experienced a significant delay as a result of the incident. The flight is now expected to depart DTW for Chicago at 5:56 p.m. Sunday. Airport officials are working to minimize further disruptions and ensure the safe and efficient resumption of travel.
