Fritz Unveils Beta Firmware: FritzOS 8.24 – Boost Your Router’s Performance

Berlin-based router manufacturer, Fritz, has released a laboratory version of FritzOS 8.24, offering a beta firmware update for a total of nine FritzBox models. This latest release focuses on addressing key performance issues and enhancing user experience. According to the company, the update resolves bugs related to Wi-Fi upload performance and inaccuracies within the online monitor.

Which FritzBox Models are Supported?

Both current fibre optic routers and established DSL models are receiving this test version. Specifically, users of the following FritzBox models can now install the update:

  • FritzBox 5690
  • FritzBox 7690
  • FritzBox 7590 AX
  • FritzBox 7590
  • FritzBox 7530 AX
  • FritzBox 7530
  • FritzBox 4690
  • FritzBox 4060
  • FritzBox 4050

Cable variants received their own laboratory update a few days prior, as reported by WinFuture.

Key Improvements in FritzOS 8.24 Beta

The beta update directly addresses an issue impacting internet connectivity. In certain Wi-Fi environments, users may have experienced reduced upload throughput. After installing the update, users should regain their expected bandwidth. Furthermore, a bug in the online monitor has been corrected. Previously, the monitor incorrectly reported an inactive state while an active connection was present.

The online counter for mobile connections has also been adjusted. Following the installation of the laboratory firmware, the module will once again display consumption data accurately. Fritz has also implemented general improvements to system stability, preparing the routers for the final release of FritzOS 8.24, as WinFuture details.

How to Install the Beta Firmware

The new test version is available for download on the Fritz laboratory website and can be installed through the router interface at fritz.box.

Important Note: Beta Software Considerations

As this is a beta firmware, Fritz advises that errors may still occur in everyday use. They strongly recommend creating a backup of your current settings through the interface before initiating the update. This precaution ensures you can revert to your previous configuration if needed.
