Hannah Berner: From Summer House to Netflix Comedy Series

Hannah Berner and Paige DeSorbo Land Netflix Comedy Series

Reality TV stars Hannah Berner and Paige DeSorbo, known for their appearances on Bravo’s Summer House and their popular podcast, Giggly Squad, are set to star in a new half-hour scripted comedy series on Netflix. The project, currently untitled, landed at the streamer after a competitive bidding process.

A Powerhouse Team Behind the Scenes

The comedy will be co-written and headlined by Berner and DeSorbo, who will portray fictionalized versions of themselves. Adding to the project’s star power, the series will be produced by Emmy Award-winning actress and comedian Amy Poehler (Parks and Recreation, Saturday Night Live). Kay Cannon (Pitch Perfect, 30 Rock) will serve as showrunner and co-writer. Universal Television, home to Poehler’s Paper Kite Prods., is the studio behind the series.

What to Expect from the New Series

Set in New York City, the series promises to follow Berner and DeSorbo as they navigate life and support each other through thick and thin, ultimately becoming the “ride-or-dies” they’ve always aspired to be. The show will explore their journey of self-discovery and growth as they shed their baggage and embrace their true selves.

From Bravo to Netflix: A Rising Trajectory

Berner and DeSorbo’s partnership began while working at the same company in New York. Their connection deepened during their time on Summer House, joining the show in its third season. Berner departed after Season 5 to pursue her stand-up comedy career, while DeSorbo left after Season 9 to focus on her fashion influencer career, including launching her sleepwear line, Daphne.

Beyond Summer House, the duo co-host the award-winning Giggly Squad podcast, which was named Podcast of the Year at the 2026 iHeartPodcast Awards. They are also expanding their acting resumes, with roles in Mindy Kaling’s upcoming Hulu comedy series, Not Suitable For Work.

A Connection with Amy Poehler

Berner previously opened for Poehler and Tina Fey in May 2025, and both Berner and DeSorbo were guests on Poehler’s podcast, Good Hang. This connection led to Poehler’s involvement in their comedy project. Poehler’s previous work, including her executive production of Comedy Central’s Broad City, which also starred real-life friends Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson, likely influenced her enthusiasm for this project. Poehler brought in her longtime friend, Kay Cannon, to serve as showrunner.

Universal Television and Netflix: A Strong Partnership

Universal Television has established itself as a key supplier of comedy series to Netflix, with shows like The Man On the Inside, The Four Seasons, and the upcoming Uncorked. The deal with Poehler through Universal TV helped facilitate the pitch and subsequent script-to-series commitment from Netflix.

Beyond the Screen: Books and Tours

In 2024-25, Berner and DeSorbo took their Giggly Squad podcast on a successful U.S. and Canada tour, including two sold-out shows at Radio City Music Hall. They are also the authors of the bestselling book, How to Giggle: A Guide to Taking Life Less Seriously. Individually, Berner starred in the 2024 Netflix comedy special, Hannah Berner: We Ride At Dawn, and DeSorbo hosted the red carpet at the Actor Awards for Netflix.
