Dominican ‘Sicario’ Arrested in Argentina, Linked to Transnational Criminal Network

A man wanted for a murder committed nearly two years ago in Villa Consuelo, a neighborhood in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, has been arrested in Argentina. Cristian López, known as ‘Emerson,’ is accused of being a member of the notorious ‘Los 50-0’ gang, a criminal organization specializing in contract killings that operates across Central America and even has connections in Spain.

Argentine Federal Police (PFA) detectives apprehended Emerson last Friday at Ezeiza International Airport upon his arrival on a flight. PFA sources confirmed the arrest, noting that a red notice from Interpol had been issued for his capture – a global request for provisional arrest pending extradition.

The Murder in Villa Consuelo

“Emerson is implicated in the murder of a man that occurred on May 7, 2024, in Villa Consuelo, the capital of the Dominican Republic,” stated the PFA. “During the shooting, a minor was also injured.”

‘Los 50-0’: A Regional Threat

The PFA press release further detailed Emerson’s alleged ties to the ‘Los 50-0’ criminal structure. “Authorities in the Dominican Republic directly link the suspect to the well-known criminal organization dedicated to contract killings known as ‘Los 50-0’. The gang, which originated in the Dominican Republic, holds significant influence throughout the Central American region and symbolizes supremacy over rival organizations.”

Recent intelligence indicated the 32-year-old suspect had been in Paris and was traveling to Argentina. The PFA’s International Affairs Division and Interpol Department then prepared an operation to intercept and arrest him. The operation also involved the International Criminal Prevention Division of Interpol, the National Directorate of Migration, and personnel from the Airport Security Police (PSA).

Emerson was arrested immediately after landing on Air France flight 412. “Emerson was detained before all passengers disembarked,” the PFA reported.

Extradition Proceedings

The alleged ‘sicario’ is now in the custody of Federal Judge Luis Armella of Lomas de Zamora, who will oversee the extradition proceedings. This arrest represents a significant blow to the ‘Los 50-0’ network and highlights international cooperation in combating transnational crime.
