Jennie of BLACKPINK Electrifies Hong Kong with First Live ‘Dracula’ Performance
Jennie, the globally renowned singer from BLACKPINK, delivered a captivating performance of the Tame Impala remix, “Dracula,” for the very first time live on Sunday night. The electrifying moment took place at the Complex Live music festival in Hong Kong’s AsiaWorld-Expo, as part of a 10-song solo set primarily featuring tracks from her debut album, Ruby. This performance marked a significant showcase of her collaboration with the Australian psychedelic rock band.
The collaboration between Jennie and Tame Impala first materialized in February, with Jennie adding her unique vocal flair to the track originally featured on Tame Impala’s recent LP, Deadbeat. The live rendition brought this remix to life, captivating the audience with a fresh and dynamic energy. You can see a clip of the performance here.
Ruby: Jennie’s Solo Debut
Jennie released her highly anticipated debut solo LP, Ruby, last March through her own record label, Odd Atelier, in partnership with Columbia Records. The 15-track album is a testament to her artistic versatility, boasting collaborations with a stellar lineup of artists including Childish Gambino, Doechii, Dominic Fike, Dua Lipa, FKJ, and Kali Uchis. Ruby quickly established Jennie as a force to be reckoned with in the solo music scene.
BLACKPINK’s Recent Achievements
Following the release of Ruby, BLACKPINK reunited for their new mini album, Deadline, and embarked on the Deadline World Tour, which concluded in Hong Kong in July. Deadline, released in February, features five tracks, including the group’s powerful comeback single, “Jump.” In a historic moment, BLACKPINK became the first K-pop girl group to headline Wembley Stadium in August, paying homage to the iconic Spice Girls with a performance of “Wannabe.”
Deadbeat: Tame Impala’s Latest Offering
Tame Impala, led by Kevin Parker, released Deadbeat in October. This fifth full-length album from the band has been described by Parker as “kind of a future primitive rave act,” offering fans a glimpse into their evolving sound. The album continues to solidify Tame Impala’s position as innovators in the psychedelic music landscape. You can learn more about Tame Impala on their official website.
This performance highlights the exciting intersection of K-pop and psychedelic rock, showcasing the global appeal of both Tame Impala and BLACKPINK’s Jennie.
