Senator Katie Britt Leads the Charge for Election Security

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Ala.) has become a vocal advocate for election integrity, joining a press conference to support the passage of the SAVE America Act. Alongside Senators Mike Lee (R-Utah), Rick Scott (R-Fla.), Jon Husted (R-Ohio), and James Lankford (R-Okla.), Senator Britt underscored the importance of secure and fair elections for all Americans.

Voter ID: A Bipartisan Issue for a Stronger Democracy

Addressing the critical need for voter ID laws, Senator Britt powerfully stated, “This isn’t a Republican issue, this is an American issue.” She highlighted the widespread support for voter ID across the political spectrum, noting its popularity among Republicans, Independents, and Democrats alike. “When you see something like that, I think it’s incumbent upon us to actually do something,” she emphasized, praising Senator Lee’s SAVE America Act as a crucial step towards bolstering confidence in the electoral process.

Senator Britt articulated the core principle behind the push for voter ID: ensuring Americans have faith in their elections. “We want to make sure that they are free, fair, and secure,” she explained. “If Americans don’t have faith, it undermines the very pillars that hold up our democracy.” She pointed to Alabama’s successful implementation of voter ID as a model for achieving this goal, linking secure elections to the pursuit of the American Dream.

Addressing Concerns and Ensuring Access

Senator Britt directly confronted arguments suggesting voter ID requirements are unattainable for certain populations. “I find that wildly offensive,” she declared, challenging colleagues to address specific barriers to identification rather than dismissing the need for it altogether. She pointed out the ubiquitous requirement of identification for everyday activities – renting a home, securing employment, even volunteering – and noted the irony of needing ID to attend a campaign event hosted by Senator Jon Ossoff.

“So, if my colleagues continue to say that there are certain segments of the population that can’t get one, why don’t we deal with that?” she challenged. “Because I want every American, regardless of their zip code, regardless of their background, regardless of their state, to be able to achieve the American Dream, and without simple identification, they can’t do that.”

A Call for Bipartisan Support for the SAVE America Act

Senator Britt urged her Democratic colleagues to support the SAVE America Act, emphasizing the importance of securing elections now. She acknowledged the encouraging signals from some Democrats expressing support for voter ID and called on them to translate those words into action on the Senate floor. She also drew a contrast with past Democratic policies, such as vaccine passports, arguing that protecting the right to vote should be a unifying principle.

“Let’s secure our elections, let’s do it now,” she concluded. “We’re certainly not going to quit until we do.”
