Bryson DeChambeau Triumphs at LIV Golf South Africa
MIDRAND, South Africa (AP) – Bryson DeChambeau continued his impressive form, claiming victory at LIV Golf South Africa on Sunday, marking his second consecutive win. The victory came down to the wire, with DeChambeau saving par on the final hole and executing a stunning 3-wood shot from a difficult lie on the 18th hole in a playoff against Jon Rahm.
DeChambeau carded a final-round 6-under 65, finishing at 26-under 258 overall. This win is particularly significant as it was his final competitive start before heading to the Masters Tournament, showcasing his peak performance and building momentum for the prestigious event. His previous victory came just last week in Singapore, demonstrating a remarkable run of form.
A Dramatic Playoff Finish
The atmosphere was electric as DeChambeau approached the 18th green, needing to secure a playoff against Rahm (who shot a 63) and clinch the team title for his Crushers team against the South African-based Southern Guard. He successfully navigated the pressure, forcing the playoff.
The playoff returned to the par-5 18th, where DeChambeau faced a challenging situation. His drive landed in the mud and muck to the left of the fairway. Granted free relief, he strategically placed his ball and unleashed a powerful 3-wood onto the green, landing just 12 feet from the hole. Rahm, from the fairway, found a bunker, blasted out, but ultimately misread his birdie putt.
This left DeChambeau with two putts to win. While his eagle putt narrowly missed, it was enough to secure the victory, adding another chapter to his burgeoning LIV Golf career.
Joining Elite Company
With this win, Bryson DeChambeau joins an exclusive club, becoming the third player on the LIV Golf circuit to achieve at least five victories. He now stands alongside Joaquin Niemann (seven wins) and Brooks Koepka (five wins), who has recently returned to the PGA Tour.
DeChambeau’s performance at LIV Golf South Africa underscores his talent and determination, setting the stage for an exciting Masters Tournament. His ability to perform under pressure and his strategic shot-making were key to his success. Fans and analysts alike are eagerly anticipating his performance at Augusta National.
