Pakistan Levels ODI Series Against Bangladesh in Thrilling Encounter
DHAKA, Bangladesh – Pakistan secured a series-levelling 128-run win against Bangladesh in a rain-affected second One Day International (ODI) on Friday. The match, played at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, saw a brilliant performance from Pakistan’s novice allrounder, Maaz Sadaqat.
Sadaqat Shines with Bat and Ball
The 20-year-old Sadaqat, playing only his second ODI, was the standout performer, smashing a quick-fire 75 off 46 balls and then claiming impressive figures of 3-23 with his left-arm spin. His all-round contribution earned him the well-deserved Player of the Match award.
While Sadaqat’s innings provided a strong foundation, Pakistan faltered towards the end, losing their last seven wickets for just 43 runs and being bowled out for 274 in 47.3 overs. A significant rain delay, including a hailstorm, interrupted play for over two hours, leading to a revised target of 243 runs in 32 overs for Bangladesh.
Bangladesh Struggles in Chase
Despite the reduced target, Bangladesh struggled to cope with the Pakistani attack and were eventually dismissed for 114 in 23.3 overs. This followed their eight-wicket defeat in the first ODI, where Pakistan, featuring four debutants, were also bowled out for a meagre 114.
Captain Afridi Reflects on Performance
Pakistan captain Shaheen Shah Afridi acknowledged the team’s previous shortcomings, stating, “The last game didn’t go our way, so the simple message was to go and play your natural game.” He also highlighted the pitch conditions, adding, “The pitch was helpful for fast bowlers, that’s why we played four of them… we lost wickets in the middle overs and we need to improve that.”
Key Moments and Controversies
Sadaqat’s impact wasn’t limited to his batting. He also dismissed Bangladesh’s top-scorer Litton Das (41) with a well-placed delivery. Fast bowler Haris Rauf further dismantled the Bangladesh tail, taking 3-26.
The match also saw a controversial run-out involving Pakistan’s Salman Agha. Agha, visibly frustrated, threw his helmet and gloves after being given out by the TV umpire. The dismissal sparked a collapse in Pakistan’s batting order.
Series Decider on Sunday
The series will now be decided in a final match on Sunday at the same venue. Both teams will be looking to capitalize on their strengths and secure a series victory. For more information on international cricket, visit AP News Cricket.
