Canadian golfer Corey Conners delivered a spectacular performance on Friday at The Players Championship, carding a 5-under 67 in the second round and surging up the leaderboard. The Listowel, Ontario native is now just four strokes behind leader Ludvig Aberg (12-under) as play concluded on Friday.

Conners is tied with 2021 Players Champion Justin Thomas at 8-under for the tournament, positioning himself for a strong weekend run. His round was marked by an incredible start, with birdies on his first four holes. He finished the day with a total of seven birdies, one eagle, and four bogeys.

An Eagle to Remember

The highlight of Conners’ round undoubtedly came on the par-five ninth hole. He stunned the crowd by holing out from the fairway with a remarkable 102-yard shot for an eagle! This incredible feat further cemented his position among the tournament’s frontrunners.

Only a select few players posted better scores in Round 2: Ludvig Aberg (63), Brian Harman (64), Xander Schauffele (65), Michael Thorbjornsen (65), Keegan Bradley (66), and Cam Young (66). This demonstrates the high level of competition and the significance of Conners’ achievement.

Looking Ahead to the Weekend

Currently ranked No. 39 in the world, the 34-year-old Conners is aiming for his third PGA Tour victory. He’s consistently performed well this season, making the cut in four of his five events, including three consecutive tournaments. Last weekend, he finished in a tie for 33rd at Bay Hill.

Conners was one of six Canadians competing at TPC Sawgrass this weekend. Taylor Pendrith (1-under), Nick Taylor (E), and Sudarshan Yellamaraju (+1) also successfully navigated the cut, while Mackenzie Hughes (+7) and A.J. Ewart (+9) will unfortunately not be continuing play.
