Bangladesh Dominates Pakistan in Series Opener
Dhaka, Bangladesh – Bangladesh secured a resounding 8-wicket victory over Pakistan in the opening match of their bilateral ODI series, marking a historic moment with Pakistan being bowled out for their lowest-ever total against their rivals. The match, held in Mirpur on Wednesday, saw a stellar performance from Bangladesh’s pace sensation, Nahid Rana.
Nahid Rana’s Sensational Five-Wicket Haul
Nahid Rana delivered a career-defining performance, claiming his first five-wicket haul in One Day Internationals. His exceptional figures of 5-24 dismantled the Pakistan batting lineup, restricting them to a meager total of 114. This score is significantly lower than Pakistan’s previous lowest ODI total against Bangladesh, which stood at 161 during the 1999 World Cup.
Rana’s devastating spell saw him become the first Bangladeshi bowler to dismiss Pakistan’s top five batsmen in a single ODI innings. He accounted for Sahibzada Farhan (27), Shamyl Hussain (4), Maaz Sadaqat (18), Mohammad Rizwan (10), and Salman Agha (5), leaving Pakistan reeling at 69-5.
Bangladesh’s Clinical Chase
The chase was a breeze for Bangladesh, with opener Tanzid Hasan leading the charge. Hasan smashed an unbeaten 67 off just 42 balls, forming a crucial second-wicket partnership of 82 runs with Najmul Hossain Shanto (27). Bangladesh reached the target in a mere 15.1 overs, showcasing their dominance.
Saif Hassan fell early for 4, while Litton Das remained not out on 3 alongside Tanzid, completing a comprehensive victory.
Supporting Bowling Performance
Captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz provided excellent support with his off-spin, taking 3-29. Senior quicks Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman also contributed with a wicket each. Faheem Ashraf’s 37 offered some resistance for Pakistan, but ultimately proved insufficient.
A Breakthrough for Nahid Rana
This performance marks a significant milestone in Nahid Rana’s burgeoning ODI career. Having taken only five wickets in his first five matches, this five-wicket haul is a testament to his growing potential. He joins Mustafizur Rahman as only the second Bangladeshi bowler to achieve this feat against Pakistan in ODIs (Mustafizur took 5-75 during the 2019 World Cup).
This victory sets a strong tone for Bangladesh as they look to continue their winning momentum in the remaining two matches of the series. For Pakistan, it’s a wake-up call and a chance to regroup and bounce back.
