Jack Draper’s return to form continues as he progresses in the Indian Wells tournament, setting up a captivating last-16 encounter with tennis legend Novak Djokovic. This comes after Draper’s impressive victory on Monday, while fellow Brit Cameron Norrie also secured a significant third-round scalp.

Draper’s Impressive Performance

British number one, Jack Draper, defeated Argentina’s Francisco Cerundolo 6-1, 7-5, showcasing a commanding performance after an eight-month absence from the ATP Tour due to an arm injury. Draper’s comeback has been closely watched, and this win demonstrates his growing confidence and resilience.

“I’m only just getting to the point where I’m playing without pain in my arm, so it’s not easy to feel really confident,” Draper shared with Sky Sports. “Obviously I’ve been playing a little bit, but I’ve got to accept that my tennis isn’t going to be completely there for a while.” Despite acknowledging the ongoing recovery process, Draper’s determination is evident.

Djokovic Advances to the Last 16

Novak Djokovic, the world number three and 24-time Grand Slam champion, overcame American Aleksandar Kovacevic 6-4, 1-6, 6-4, ensuring his continued campaign in the tournament. The match highlighted Djokovic’s ability to adapt and overcome challenges, solidifying his position as a top contender.

Norrie Upsetting Seeds

Cameron Norrie, the British number two, also reached the fourth round with a notable upset, defeating sixth seed Alex de Minaur of Australia 6-4, 6-4. Norrie’s performance showcased his strategic gameplay and ability to perform under pressure.

Looking Ahead: Draper vs. Djokovic

Draper will face the 38-year-old Djokovic for the first time since taking the first set off the defending champion at Wimbledon in 2021. Draper expressed his admiration for Djokovic, stating, “I’ve been watching him since I was a young boy and in my opinion he’s the greatest player of all-time.” He anticipates a tough match, acknowledging Djokovic’s mental fortitude and exceptional tennis skills.

“When you come up against him you know he’s going to be there mentally, you know he’s going to make it an incredibly tough match and play some crazy tennis. I’m going to have to be ready for that,” Draper added. “Anyone who is in the game and knows tennis, knows that what he has done in the sport and what he is still doing is mind-blowing.”
