IRCC Passport Fee Changes 2026: A Comprehensive Guide for Canadian Travelers

Ottawa, March 3, 2026 – For Canadians planning international travel, staying informed about passport services is crucial. The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has announced upcoming changes to passport and travel document fees, effective March 31, 2026. This marks the first fee update since 2013, reflecting both inflation and the increasing costs associated with producing secure travel documents and providing comprehensive support to applicants.

Why are Passport Fees Increasing?

The adjustment in fees is a direct response to rising operational costs and the need to maintain a reliable and efficient passport service. The IRCC aims to ensure sustainable funding for the production of secure travel documents and the continued support offered to Canadians throughout the application process. This includes investments in technology and personnel to handle the growing demand for passports.

New Passport Fees – Effective March 31, 2026

For applications submitted within Canada, the new fees will be as follows (a complete list can be found on the Passport and travel document fee changes page):

  • Adult Passport (5 years): [Insert Fee Amount Here – *Please update with official IRCC fee*]
  • Adult Passport (10 years): [Insert Fee Amount Here – *Please update with official IRCC fee*]
  • Child Passport (5 years): [Insert Fee Amount Here – *Please update with official IRCC fee*]

Important Note: Applications received on or after March 31, 2026, will be subject to these new fees. Ensure you are aware of the updated costs before submitting your application.

Annual Fee Adjustments & Service Standards

To ensure long-term sustainability and consistent service, passport and travel document fees will now be adjusted annually based on the inflation rate, as outlined in the Service Fees Act. This proactive approach will help the IRCC maintain a high standard of service delivery.
