Lucy Boynton to Star in Season Two of ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’

HBO’s critically acclaimed prequel series, ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,’ is bolstering its cast for its highly anticipated second season. The show has tapped the talented Lucy Boynton, known for her captivating performance in ‘Bohemian Rhapsody,’ alongside seasoned actors Babou Ceesay (‘Alien: Earth’) and Peter Mullan (‘Westworld’). This exciting news signals a promising continuation of the fantasy drama, based on George R.R. Martin’s beloved world.

New Additions to the Realm

Lucy Boynton will portray Lady Rohanne of Coldmoat, a character also known as the Red Widow. Babou Ceesay is set to play Ser Bennis of the Brown Shield, while Peter Mullan will embody Ser Eustace Osgrey of Standfast in the Reach. These additions join returning stars Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan “Dunk” the Tall and Dexter Sol Ansell as Egg, ensuring a familiar core for fans.

Based on ‘The Sworn Sword’

Season two will draw inspiration from George R.R. Martin’s novella, ‘The Sworn Sword.’ The storyline will follow Dunk and Egg as they navigate a complex regional dispute amidst a scorching summer drought in Westeros. Filming is expected to take place in Spain, a location previously utilized for ‘Game of Thrones,’ though primarily for scenes depicting Dorne or Essos.

Behind the Scenes Insights

Showrunner Ira Parker shared insights into the upcoming season with The Hollywood Reporter, stating, “It’ll still be six episodes. I think the scope will be the same, maybe even smaller. The budget has stayed the same, but everything is more expensive due to inflation. Plus, book two takes place in a drought, so we can’t shoot exteriors in Belfast. We have to go to a sunny location with no water, which costs money — that’s a major expense that we did not have in season one.” He also expressed enthusiasm for the season, anticipating a fresh and improved narrative.

Success of the First Season & Expanding the Universe

The debut season of ‘Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ achieved record-high ratings for a series finale, averaging 14 million U.S. viewers across all platforms and a remarkable 26 million viewers worldwide, according to HBO. This success comes amidst a surge of news surrounding the ‘Game of Thrones’ universe.

Recent announcements include a planned ‘Game of Thrones’ movie focusing on King Aegon I Targaryen’s conquest of Westeros, penned by Beau Willimon (‘Andor,’ ‘House of Cards’). Additionally, the trailer for the third season of ‘House of the Dragon’ has been released, and a stage adaptation, ‘Game of Thrones: The Mad King,’ is set to premiere at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. You can learn more about the upcoming play on the Royal Shakespeare Company website.

Fans can anticipate the return of ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ for its second season sometime in 2027.
