Car Theft Suspect Apprehended in An Giang Province
On March 4th, the Investigative Police Agency of An Giang Province announced the arrest and detention of Nguyễn Thanh Phong (born in 1998, residing in Binh Xuan 2 hamlet, Xuan Phu commune, Dong Nai province) following an investigation into a vehicle theft. The suspect is accused of stealing a vehicle.
Initial investigations reveal that around 2:00 PM on February 22nd, 2026, Mr. T, a resident of hamlet 1, Tri Ton commune, An Giang province, parked his car (license plate 67H – 030.76) in front of his house, leaving the keys in the ignition. Around 5:30 PM the same day, Nguyễn Thanh Phong was walking by and noticed the car with the keys still inside. Seeing no one around, he formed the intent to steal the vehicle.
While attempting to escape, Mr. T discovered the theft in progress and pursued Phong, simultaneously contacting the An Giang Provincial Police Traffic Police patrol team for assistance. The suspect was apprehended by the patrol team in the Tân Trung hamlet, Cô Tô commune.
Nguyễn Thanh Phong is currently in custody, and the Investigative Police Agency is continuing their investigation to pursue legal action according to Vietnamese law.
