LSU Baseball Secures Victory Over Northeastern Behind Moore’s Masterclass

BATON ROUGE, La. – The top-ranked LSU Tigers extended their impressive season with a decisive 3-1 win against Northeastern on Saturday at Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field. LSU now boasts a 10-1 record, while Northeastern falls to 1-6.

Moore Shines on the Mound

Right-hander Cooper Moore delivered a phenomenal performance, pitching 7.2 innings and allowing just one run on three hits. He showcased exceptional control with only one walk and an impressive 10 strikeouts. This performance solidified his record to 3-0 for the season.

“Cooper is a star,” said LSU coach Jay Johnson, celebrating his 200th career win. “He’s that guy you bring to your team who you know is going to be as good as you want him to be, and Cooper is that guy for this team. I’m really proud of him; he’s got great competitive character and a great pitch mix, and he executes.”

Key Moments and Scoring

The Tigers took an early lead in the bottom of the first inning when rightfielder Jake Brown scored after a failed steal attempt by Northeastern’s shortstop Steven Milam. Brayden Simpson’s RBI single in the second inning extended the lead to 2-0. LSU further padded their advantage in the fourth, capitalizing on an error that allowed Trent Caraway to score.

Northeastern managed to get on the board in the fifth inning with a solo home run by AJ Aschettino, his first of the season. However, LSU’s pitching proved too strong to overcome.

Sheerin Seals the Deal

Reliever Deven Sheerin earned his first career LSU save, closing out the game with 1.1 scoreless innings, striking out three batters and allowing no hits or walks. His performance provided a strong finish to a well-played game.

LSU will return to action at 12:30 p.m. CT on Sunday, facing Dartmouth at Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field. The game will be broadcast on the LSU Sports Radio Network and streamed on SEC Network +.
