Diddy’s Legal Team Now Represents Harvey Weinstein in Rape Trial

In a stunning turn of events, disgraced film producer Harvey Weinstein has enlisted the legal representation previously employed by Sean “Diddy” Combs. This strategic shift comes as Weinstein prepares for his third New York rape trial, following a split verdict in his previous case and the overturning of earlier convictions.

A New Legal Strategy

The legal team, comprised of Jacob Kaplan, Marc Agnifilo, and Teny Geragos of Agnifilo Intrater, confirmed their representation of Weinstein in court papers. This move marks a departure from Weinstein’s long-standing counsel, Arthur Aidala, who will now focus on appeals and civil matters. Weinstein himself maintained his innocence at a January hearing, stating he “never assaulted anyone” and expressing distress after nearly six years of incarceration.

The Team’s Recent Successes

Kaplan, Agnifilo, and Geragos bring a track record of high-profile successes to Weinstein’s defense. They recently secured a split verdict and acquittals for Combs on sex trafficking and racketeering charges. They are also currently defending the Alexander brothers in a separate sex trafficking trial. Previously, they successfully navigated legal challenges in the case of Luigi Mangione, securing the dismissal of terrorism charges and preventing the application of the death penalty.

The Case Against Weinstein

The upcoming trial centers around allegations made by Jessica Mann, a hairstylist and actor, who claims Weinstein raped her in a Manhattan hotel in 2013. The previous trial resulted in a conviction for forcing oral sex on Miriam Haley, an acquittal on a separate charge involving Kaja Sokola, and a hung jury on the rape charge involving Mann. Weinstein’s lawyers have argued that the previous verdict was compromised by juror misconduct, a claim rejected by Judge Curtis Farber.

Looking Ahead

The trial, initially scheduled for March 3rd, has been postponed with no new date set. Weinstein faces up to 25 years in prison for the conviction related to Haley, and an additional four years for the unresolved rape charge involving Mann. The timing of Weinstein’s trial may also be influenced by Mangione’s state trial, slated to begin in June. This case represents a critical juncture for Weinstein, as his legal team attempts to recalibrate their strategy and secure a more favorable outcome.
