Whitecaps FC: A Strong Start to the Season
The ‘Caps kicked off their 2026 MLS regular season with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Real Salt Lake, in front of a roaring crowd of over 23,000 fans. This win marked the club’s 500th MLS regular season match and secured back-to-back home opener victories – a rare feat for the team. New signing AZ made an immediate impact, scoring the winning goal and becoming the fourth Vancouver player in the last 12 months to score on their MLS debut, following in the footsteps of Jayden Nelson, Tate Johnson, and Antoine Coupland.
Vancouver will look to capitalize on this momentum, with seven of their first eight MLS matches taking place at BC Place.
Win and Move On: The Champions Cup Challenge
The stakes are high. A win on Wednesday is the only acceptable outcome for the Whitecaps. Despite the challenging travel and high altitude in Costa Rica, the ‘Caps created several scoring opportunities in the first leg. If the score remains tied after 90 minutes, the match will head to extra time, and potentially penalty kicks, to determine the victor.
CS Cartaginés also secured a weekend win, defeating AD Municipal Liberia 2-1 at home, demonstrating they will be a formidable opponent.
Maple Leaf Matchup: Whitecaps vs. Toronto FC
Following the Champions Cup clash, the Whitecaps will turn their attention to an all-Canadian showdown against Toronto FC on Saturday, February 28th. Vancouver boasts an impressive recent record against Toronto, remaining unbeaten in their last seven meetings across all competitions, including a dominant 4-0 victory in their last regular season encounter at BC Place in 2024. The ‘Caps are also within striking distance of matching Toronto’s impressive 183 MLS regular season wins, currently sitting just two wins behind.
