Fausto Leali Receives Lifetime Achievement Award at Sanremo

Carlo Conti, the host, introduced the prestigious Career Award presented by the City of Sanremo to a true legend of Italian music. A wave of applause erupted as Fausto Leali made his entrance onto the stage of the Ariston Theatre, a moment that resonated with decades of musical history.

Conti fondly reminisced about Leali’s debut at the Festival in 1968, a remarkable pairing with the R&B icon Wilson Pickett. This was followed by a captivating archival footage montage, transporting the audience back in time.

A Trip Down Memory Lane

The screen lit up with images of a young Pippo Baudo introducing Leali and his signature song, “Deborah” – a track that remains deeply embedded in the hearts of Italian music lovers. This nostalgic moment highlighted the enduring impact of Leali’s work.

A Medley of Memories

Leali then delivered a breathtaking medley of “Io amo” (I Love) and “Mi manchi” (I Miss You), a performance lasting approximately four minutes. This carefully curated selection offered a poignant journey through the defining moments of his extensive repertoire, showcasing his vocal prowess and emotional depth. The performance was a testament to his enduring artistry.

Honouring a Legacy

Following the performance, Carlo Conti, alongside co-hosts Laura Pausini, Achille Lauro, and Lillo, invited Maestro Pinuccio Pirazzoli to the stage to present the City of Sanremo Lifetime Achievement Award and a beautiful bouquet of flowers. In addition, two SIAE plaques were awarded – one commemorating the initial copyright deposit of his work, and another specifically dedicated to the timeless classic, “Deborah”.

The Ariston Theatre erupted in a prolonged and heartfelt ovation for Leali, who, approaching his 82nd birthday (which he will celebrate this autumn), continues to command the stage with remarkable energy and passion. His performance was a powerful reminder of his lasting contribution to Italian music. You can find more information about the Sanremo Music Festival on their official website.
