Your Voice Matters: Help Build Central PA’s EV Charging Network
The Harrisburg Area Transportation Study (HATS) is calling on residents of Dauphin, Cumberland, and Perry counties to participate in a crucial survey that will determine the optimal locations for new, federally funded EV charging stations. This is your chance to directly influence the expansion of electric vehicle infrastructure in our region and ensure convenient access to charging for all.
Federal Funding Fuels EV Infrastructure Growth
This initiative is part of the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program, a landmark program designed to build out a robust national EV charging network. Initially focused on “alternative fuel corridors” like major interstates, the program is now expanding to support community-based charging solutions, bringing the benefits of electric vehicles closer to home.
How You Can Contribute
HATS is seeking public input to guide decisions regarding the allocation of approximately $3 to $4 million in federal infrastructure dollars. The survey, accessible through February 28th, is a comprehensive tool designed to gather valuable insights from the community. It includes:
- 13 targeted questions about your needs and preferences regarding EV charging.
- An interactive map allowing you to suggest potential locations for new charging stations.
- A visual representation of suggestions from other residents, fostering a collaborative planning process.
Organizers estimate the survey will take approximately 15 minutes to complete. Your participation is vital, as public opinion will play a significant role in the final placement of these essential charging points.
Prioritizing Communities and Use Cases
Andrew Bomberger, Executive Director of the Tri-County Regional Planning Commission, emphasized the importance of identifying both priority communities and priority use cases for these EV charging stations. “We partner with PennDOT on these planning efforts. Our charge is kind of to, to identify two things: priority communities and priority use cases,” he stated. This ensures that the investment maximizes impact and serves the needs of a diverse population.
